چکیده

Kolmogorov (1958) recognised that by appropriately encoding phase-space trajectories of dynamical systems, one could in principle compute the corresponding Shannon entropies (in physics, referred to as the Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy) for each. Pesin [1] (1977) proved that for certain classes of dissipative non-linear systems, including one dimensional maps, the KS-entropy is precisely the sum of the positive Lyapunov exponents, effectively a measure of the global average tendency for initially close neighbour states to diverge exponentially with time. For the logistic map, certain coarse grained encodings of the phase space trajectories obtained from known generating partitions, yield finite alphabetic strings whose entropies are computable by way of the positive Lyapunov exponents.

PPMexe: PPM for Compressing Software

With the emergence of software delivery platforms such as Microsoft’s .NET, code compression has become one of the core enabling technologies strongly affecting system performance. In this paper, we present PPMexe a set of compression mechanisms for executables that explores their syntax and semantics to achieve superior compression rates. The fundament of PPMexe is the generic paradigm of pred...

Image Compression using an Efficient Edge Cartoon + Texture Model

Wavelet-based image coders optimally represent smooth regions and isolated point singularities. However, w av elet coders are less adept at representing perceptually important edge singularities, and coding performance su ers signi cantly as a result. In this paper, w epropose a no veltw o-stageimage coder framework based on modeling images as edge cartoons + textures. In stage 1, w einfer and ...

Combined Image Compressor and Denoiser based on Tree-adapted Wavelet Shrinkage

An algorithm is described for simultaneously compressing and denoising images. The algorithm is called tree-adapted wavelet shrinkage and compression (TAWS-Comp). TAWS-Comp is a synthesis of an image compression algorithm, adaptively scanned wavelet difference reduction (ASWDR), and a denoising algorithm, tree-adapted wavelet shrinkage (TAWS). As a compression procedure, TAWS-Comp inherits all ...

An Error-Resilient Blocksorting Compression Algorithm

A Burrows-Wheeler Compressor breaks input into blocks, quickly makes each more compressible, and compresses the modified block with a simple arithmetic or Huffman compressor. We propose an error-resilient Inverse Burrows-Wheeler Compressor. It uses a small amount of overhead alongside output from an ordinary BWT and MTF. It is also size-competitive with BZIP, a popular Burrows-Wheeler compressor.
